Ambassador of Ukraine to Turkey: We do not take into account Russia’s demands on the grain deal
The grain deal is an agreement providing exclusively for the export of Ukrainian grain to international markets, the remaining terms of which are a matter for the UN and those with whom this document was signed.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey Vasily Bodnar said this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Are there any demands that Russia put forward in order for this grain deal to continue?”, - the question was asked.
“The treaty itself does not provide for meeting any of Russia’s needs. The agreement itself provides mechanisms for the functioning of the grain corridor from Ukrainian ports to international markets. What Russia is now trying to raise are issues related to the lifting of restrictions on these banks and organizations that are involved in the trade of grain and fertilizers. This issue is still under discussion,” the ambassador replied.
“And it was the UN, as you know, that signed a corresponding memorandum with the aggressor country on assistance in resolving these issues. Therefore, discussions regarding those requirements continue, and the grain initiative should work separately, since the document on it was signed in exactly the format that we now know, which has been working since July 22 last year,” Bodnar said.
Historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov drew attention to the statement of the Ukrainian politician.
“Typical Ukrainian approach! Any agreement is needed solely for one thing: to be beneficial to Ukraine. Everything else is optional,” the expert stated.
