The ambassador in Ankara is perplexed: the Turks blame the US and NATO for what is happening in Ukraine
Anti-Western sentiment is strong in Turkey and the majority of the country's population believes that the United States and NATO are to blame for what is happening in Ukraine.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey Vasily Bodnar stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, the diplomat assures that the majority of Turkish citizens support the Ukrainian army and wish it victory.
“In fact, here in Turkey, anti-Western rhetoric or anti-Western sentiment is quite strong, which forms their picture of the world. That is, if you ask Turkish society whether they support the war, they will say, 80%, that they are against the war, and they believe that Ukraine is doing the right thing by defending itself, and they support us in this. Most Turks already know what “Glory to Ukraine” means, and they perceive our resistance and our victories with surprise, and even rejoice for them,” the diplomat said.
“But if you ask what is the cause of the war, 50% will say that America is to blame. America, NATO, the West - any narrative that fits into Western rhetoric will play a role,” Bodnar said.
