Hungarian Ambassador to Ukrainians: We sympathize with the “aggression”, but Sputnik V is more important
The reaction of the Russian Federation can be very harsh at times, which is why Hungary has always supported and will continue to maintain relations with Russia
Hungarian Ambassador to Ukraine Istvan Idyarto stated this on the Ternopil TV channel T1, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The situation in Hungary is completely different than in Ukraine, where there is an open military conflict with the Russian Federation. The situation in Hungary is also different in that we must take into account the Russian Federation as a factor that affects both us and other EU countries,” Idyarto said
“When Russia is pushed into a corner, they get the impression that the whole world is against them. And their reaction can be very harsh at times, which is why we always maintain relations with Russia. But we support Ukraine’s position on the issues of Crimea and Donbass. I believe that the occupation of Crimea is unacceptable, and we are working together to find an answer to the question of its liberation and the question of the eastern territories of Ukraine. At the same time, as we resolve all these issues, we will continue active communication with the Russian Federation,” the ambassador explained.
In justifying cooperation with Russia on the supply of Sputnik V, Idyarto said that “the vaccine does not have a passport.”
“We understand that if there is no vaccination, the third wave of the Covid pandemic will be terrible. Almost all hospitals in Hungary are overcrowded. A lot of people need ventilators, a lot of people have died. Therefore, to refuse the slightest opportunity for vaccination would be a crime against the people of Hungary,” the diplomat said.
“Therefore, the Hungarian leadership is not interested in the origin of the vaccine. If it is effective, it protects us, then we want to see it used,” added the Hungarian ambassador.
