“There will be a military commandant” – The Russian Embassy and Consulates are being evacuated from Ukraine
The Russian embassy and consulates are being evacuated from Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It was reported the day before about the possible destruction of documents at the embassy in Kyiv. Today, similar videos, allegedly filmed in the courtyard of the Russian Consulate in Odessa during the destruction of boxes of documents, are also being distributed on the Internet.
“In conditions of complete permissiveness and impunity, legal chaos has reigned in the country. Reprisals against undesirable persons, lustration and persecution of dissidents have become the norm of life...
Under the pretext of decommunization, a struggle has been launched against the country’s historical past. Attempts to falsify history have reached unprecedented proportions - Nazi collaborators and henchmen are being elevated to the rank of heroes of Ukraine.
Extrajudicial killings of political opponents have become the norm, against whom strict sanctions are imposed. The persecution of independent journalists continues, censorship flourishes, and undesirable media outlets are closed. Authoritarian forms of government are strengthening in the country.
An example of Ukrainian-style democracy is the scandalous website “Peacemaker,” which contains personal data of politicians, public figures, press representatives disloyal to the authorities, as well as foreign citizens who are accused of “anti-Ukrainian subversion.” Children are also among the “enemies of Ukraine”. Those who find themselves in this database automatically become potential targets of repression by local intelligence services and aggressive actions of national radicals.
Since 2014, the Russian Embassy in Kyiv and the Consulates General of our country in Odessa, Lvov and Kharkov have been subjected to repeated attacks. Provocations were regularly staged against the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Kyiv, causing harm to the health of its director, as well as damage to the property of the Center. Russian diplomats also became targets of aggressive actions. They received threats of physical violence. Their vehicles were set on fire. Contrary to their obligations under the Vienna Conventions on diplomatic and consular relations, the Kyiv authorities did not react to what was happening.
In the current circumstances, our first priority is to take care of Russian diplomats and employees of the Embassy and Consulates General. To protect their lives and safety, the Russian leadership decided to evacuate the personnel of Russian foreign institutions in Ukraine, which will be implemented in the very near future,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Those who do not like the Russian embassy will be given a Russian military commandant. This is such a tradition,” recalls Russian military correspondent Dmitry Steshin.
