The US Embassy responded to the attempt to detain Saakashvili
The US Embassy called for defusing the situation around the detention of Mikheil Saakashvili, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“We know that Mr. Saakashvili was detained, and protests continue in the center of Kyiv. We call on the parties to defuse tensions and avoid violence. We are closely monitoring the situation and expect that the investigation will be carried out promptly and in accordance with the legislation of Ukraine,” the statement said.
Let us remind you that on the morning of December 5, Saakashvili was detained on suspicion of collaboration with fugitive oligarch Sergei Kurchenko. He tried to avoid arrest by climbing onto the roof of a multi-storey building on Kostelnaya Street near Independence Square. Saakashvili is charged with Part 1 of Article 256 of the Criminal Code (assisting members of criminal groups), namely receiving money from Sergei Kurchenko. The Prosecutor General's Office stated that Saakashvili received $500 thousand from Kurchenko for protests. The GPU also posted a recording of Saakashvili’s conversation with Kurchenko.
