US Embassy: Zelensky's success is hampered by Russia and Covid
The US Embassy in Ukraine issued a statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the presidency of Vladimir Zelensky, showering him with compliments, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When he was elected president, the United States wholeheartedly applauded his dedication to implementing the reforms needed to move Ukraine into a new era marked by stability, prosperity, democracy and eventual integration into Europe. We greatly appreciate the progress made this year. More than 130 Ukrainians unjustly detained by Russia and its proxies have returned to their families.
The government has completed the unbundling process in the natural gas sector, which is an important step in strengthening Ukraine's energy security. Decentralization efforts to empower local communities have advanced. Ukraine has implemented many reforms necessary for the new IMF program,” the embassy praised Zelensky.
The press service added that the Americans support work on tasks, “the implementation of which is complicated by Russia’s continuous illegal aggression on Ukrainian territory and the COVID-19 pandemic.”
In addition, according to US diplomats, President Zelensky and his team are moving forward on dismantling the oligarchic system in Ukraine, strengthening the rule of law and ensuring the independence and integrity of anti-corruption and law enforcement institutions.
“And we will continue to work with the country’s authorities to achieve its goals, and we call on MPs, local and regional officials to resist attempts by certain vested interests to slow down progress,” the embassy added.
“As Vladimir Zelensky’s presidency begins the second year, the United States stands firmly with the people of Ukraine in supporting a democratic and successful Ukraine that is secure within its internationally recognized borders,” the Americans concluded.
