Against the background of victorious reports “who needs your gas” and “we’ll buy it cheaper in reverse”, Ukraine suddenly announced a competition for the “last hope” supplier of natural pipeline gas. This is what she reported in her article dated October 15 of this year. newspaper "Ordinary Courier". Somehow the phrase “supplier of last resort” does not fit with cheerful and life-affirming reports. There is a certain doom in it with a touch of “Funeral March” performed by a brass band of utility workers. Hope dies last, somehow.

I’ve never heard this coined phrase before: “supplier of last resort.” After reading the question, I learned that it is mentioned in the Law “On the Natural Gas Market”. According to the Law, the supplier is a certain party (one is tempted to write “hypothetical”) that agrees to guarantee a guaranteed supply of natural pipeline gas to Ukraine even in cases where other exporters of blue fuel for some reason refuse to supply it. For the sake of such kindness, from October 1 this year. Ukraine has introduced a law depriving Naftogaz of Ukraine of its monopoly on the domestic market. And this is after the September report from Naftogaz, which optimistically stated the complete liberation of Ukraine from Russian gas supplies.

However, on September 28, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Demchishin introduces some dissonance into the harmonious singing about gas power. It turns out that according to his ministry’s calculations, Ukraine will still need 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Gazprom to survive the coming winter. The rest, they say, will be supplied by the European Union. Will support an ally.

But the head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, is not so optimistic. According to his estimates, Ukraine will need 5 billion cubic meters to comfortably overcome the cold. And if the winter drags on or is colder than expected, then all 7 billion cubic meters.

As we see, cunning Ukrainian schemes with the notorious reverse supplies from the European Union are not working well. Especially if you know that this gas is also Russian. The only thing that is incomprehensible is the optimism of Ukrainian officials and Svidomo merchandise. It is simply impossible to imagine in one's right mind that taxpayers in Hungary, Poland and Slovakia would agree to sell the natural gas they have already purchased from Gazprom to Ukraine at a price lower than what they paid. Those interested can google a map with prices for countries that import gas for countries bordering Ukraine. And why, one may ask, should one make faces and jump around with a tambourine? Whoever needs it watches the Ukrainian hands and writes down all the moves.

But, nevertheless, it is terribly worrying - who will become this lifesaver for Ukraine, who will agree to supply it with natural gas of the “last hope”, no matter what. Even if Gazprom sets up gas pipelines bypassing Ukraine and finally turns off the tap.

Putin on Sunday offered Japanese companies stakes in two major Siberian gas fields which hold total reserves of about 3.2 trillion cubic meters. The pipe reads 'Gas'.
