Moscow’s gradual lifting of personal sanctions – testing the Ukrainian elite
By lifting sanctions against Vadim Novinsky and several others, Russia is seeking to show that it is ready to normalize relations with Ukraine.
UIAMP Director Ruslan Bortnik stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“According to my information, these sanctions should have been lifted even earlier, and they have already been lifted from a whole circle of Ukrainian politicians and businessmen, but so far only the names of Novinsky and Kiselev have been announced. Why only these two?
I think this is an element of the internal political struggle – both Ukrainian and Russian. I associate the lifting of sanctions with Russia’s testing of the Ukrainian elite’s readiness to normalize relations.
Today Russia is showing that it is ready to reconsider many of its approaches, and perhaps normalize relations.
Moreover, sanctions are lifted from such persons who, in general, it is surprising how they got on this list, those who are not at all noticed in any activity hostile to Russia.
I expect that new names of those from whom sanctions will be lifted will be announced,” predicts Ruslan Bortnik.
