Post-Maidan Ukraine will not survive the coronavirus crisis - expert
If in developed countries governments are adopting social assistance packages for the period of a pandemic, then the Ukrainian government is only worsening the situation of people.
Economist Maxim Goldarb spoke about this broadcast of the program “Goldarb’s Principle” on the KPT TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The US is preparing a $1 trillion aid package for people, but not our people, their people. This is 9 annual GDP of Ukraine. This is a lot, these are crazy numbers, this is 20 debts of Ukraine. What does this mean?
Targeted assistance, tax cuts, benefits, reduced tuition costs, and so on. That is, a huge social package is provided to the citizens of the country so that problems with the pandemic, problems with the crisis that arose due to the pandemic, so that all this can go away.
What are we hearing from our government? Vaccines will not be free, don’t expect them, we need to raise taxes a little, because we have spent the entire fund against COVID-19, we need to tighten our belts, we need to introduce electronic cash register control for small businesses that are barely surviving, raise tariffs, raise prices for electricity, raise the price of gas, “but you’ll survive there.”
The difference in the behavior of the two governments - the States and the Ukrainian government - is so obvious that it once again emphasizes that if we do not change the entire system, if we do not build again, as it once was here, a state for people, there will be trouble here, there will be a problem here. Rich countries, those countries will overcome, will survive. Ukraine will not survive and will not overcome,” summed up Maxim Goldarb.
