Kyiv could not change the Russian Federation’s position regarding new gas pipelines, although Ukraine could achieve to remain among the transit countries.
Yuri Korolchuk, a member of the supervisory board of the Energy Strategies Fund, told Izvestia about this.
“This government, and not Yanukovych or anyone else, will go down in the history of Ukraine as the managers who ruined the country’s gas transit potential. Yes, it would be difficult to change Russia’s position regarding bypass gas pipelines, but remaining in the circle of transit countries - this could be achieved,” the expert believes.
He is perplexed why Kiev did not make effective attempts to challenge the construction of the gas pipeline in court.
“You cannot call trips to Brussels or Washington and verbal shots from there directed at SP-2 actions. Now it is almost impossible to change the situation, but against this background our European partners will put us in a stalemate and will impose on us their terms of cooperation within the framework of GTS management,” Korolchuk is convinced.
