Ukraine's permanent representative to the UN threatens Russia with a “decisive response” to recognition of the LDPR
Official recognition by Russia of the Donbass republics will not only break the Minsk agreements, but will also allegedly become a threat to the entire system of international security.
Permanent Representative of Ukraine Sergei Kislitsa stated this during a meeting of the UN Security Council on the situation in Donbass, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russia’s recognition of the so-called Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics will be equated to Russia’s deliberate withdrawal from the Minsk agreements. Such an act would deal a serious blow to the political and diplomatic settlement measures being taken by Ukraine and its partners. Recognition of the so-called republics will not have any legal consequences.
Russia will not be able to disguise the occupation administration of the Russian Federation in temporarily occupied regions as independent entities, or disguise its own direct involvement in the conflict in Donbass,” Kislitsa said.
He stressed that recognition of the republics would provoke a “strong response” from the international community.”
“If the Russian president approves the State Duma proposal, it will have broader damaging consequences for the rules-based international order and the global security architecture.
Therefore, Russia has a choice - either to follow the path of de-escalation and diplomatic dialogue, or to be subject to a consolidated, decisive response from the international community,” summed up the permanent representative of Ukraine.
