“I’ll sprinkle ashes on my head” – the Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea repents for violating quarantine
Vice Prime Minister of Crimea, formerly a well-known developer in Sevastopol and the republic, Evgeny Kabanov, violated the self-isolation regime recommended by the government and went into the forest.
He himself boasted about this on his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Kabanov, he walked through the mountains, forest and even opened the swimming season.
“Hello everyone, friends! Through long ordeals, a cure for [coronavirus] was found... This is a walk through a mountain forest, and, of course, the opening of the swimming season at sea. I recommend it to everyone, and join in. The water is already +12. Good health to everyone and have a good rest of the weekend,” Kabanov wrote.
His action was criticized in his blog by oppositionist and former chief of staff of the Crimean “Batkivshchyna” Alexander Yuryev.
“Are you staying at home? The Crimean government and deputies have forbidden you to travel to the sea and the forest. This was all accepted exclusively for you, ordinary citizens. Many high-ranking officials did not care about the decrees of the Head of Crimea. Do you think the police patrol will fine them? Here is an example of how Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea Kabanov violates all decrees and orders. Do you think he will be punished?” Yuryev wrote.
After this story spread widely and received condemnation in Crimean society, Kabanov appeared on the Crimea 24 TV channel and apologized, calling for him to be fined.
“It was last weekend, it was really a rash act - to take a walk in the forest on a day off. I am fully aware of the extent of my responsibility. Just today I contacted the Ministry of Ecology of the Republic of Crimea to draw up an administrative protocol against me and pay a fine. Once again I apologize to all the residents of Crimea... It was a day off, so I sprinkle ashes on my head, apologize, and am ready to pay for it,” Kabanov said.
