Losses from labor migration in Ukraine are greater than in the war in Donbass
More and more Ukrainians are forced to migrate to the West due to the low standard of living in the country. The number of people who went to work in Europe is already greater than the military losses in Donbass.
Political scientist and representative of the former Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Mikhail Chaplyga stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“To be honest, the losses that occurred from migration are much worse than those that we suffered from the war. People die every day in war, but here, excuse me, they leave in the millions. Most of them will not return, considering that they take their children there. A lot of my colleagues, and I myself, are thinking about having my child study somewhere in Poland after 8th grade. And in principle, it is not clear what will happen here in terms of the quality of education and the labor market. But the trouble is this: soon we won’t have anyone to work with. All good specialists who travel to Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the European Union in general, they soon get the opportunity to work there legally, and those who do not have good qualifications work illegally, and very often become hostages of labor slavery. This doesn’t mean that someone is running after them with machine guns, they just don’t get paid and they can’t return home. The whole negative thing is that we are losing labor resources, and where do we get them if we want to see economic development? It won’t happen out of the blue,” Chaplyga noted.
