Losing a sense of reality will cost Ukraine even greater dependence on the Russian Federation
Ukraine may become even more dependent on Russian energy resources after the end of the current contract for the transit of Russian gas.
Director of the Institute of Political Analysis and International Studies Sergei Tolstov stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the framework of the game “war is not war,” we often lose our sense of reality after 2019. And after 2019, in the case of Nord Stream 2, if there is no new agreement, then gas transit will more than likely cease. Why the cessation of gas transit? Because Gazprom does not have the right to supply gas without a contract. This is a violation of Russian legislation, which Gazprom and Russian government agencies know about. No transit - no reverse,” the political scientist emphasized.
He also noted that Ukraine’s dependence on Russia for oil and petroleum products is more than 80 percent.
“Plus the blockade of Donbass and the coal dependence of Ukrainian power plants. Plus the expected problems in nuclear energy. All this together creates a very bad background, within the framework of which the game “war is not war”, “Minsk agreements are valid - Minsk agreements are not valid” can lead to a slightly different reality and the transition of all these disputes into factors of very serious economic dependence in which the game is no longer may be impossible,” Tolstov said.
