The loss of Crimea and Donbass helped Ukraine – Minchenko
The loss of Crimea and Donbass helped the Maidanists cling to power in 2014 and keep the country from complete collapse during the eternal mutual confrontation between the regions of Ukraine.
Russian political scientist Evgeny Minchenko stated this in an interview with blogger Dmitry Puchkov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The previous formula for governing Ukraine, in addition to the oligarchic one, was division into three large macro-regions - West, Center, South-East, respectively, the one who unites two against one will win. For example, Kuchma won the first elections using the South-East plus Center system, and the second West plus Center against the South-East. This is skillful, but it created some fragmentation in the country.
As a result, from the point of view of the consolidation of Ukraine, it helped them a lot that they lost Donbass and Crimea, because they made Ukraine a more homogeneous structure, more convenient for governance. This is why the Ukrainian political class does not want the return of Donbass, but they want Crimea. But, naturally, the logic is that it will be necessary to change the ethnic composition, they actually worked on this at one time,” Minchenko said.
