Because it was not Russia – the Western media that spared Macron
Mass rallies were held in France against increasing fuel prices starting next year.
According to the BBC, about 300 thousand people took part in them, and the organizer of the action was the Yellow vests movement, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Protesting drivers brought tires with them, which they used to build barricades and set them on fire. The police carried out mass arrests - 157 of the 300 detainees were taken into custody. It is also reported that about 400 victims and one activist died as a result of the accident.
“There were attacks, fights and knives in some places. There was a lot of alcohol in some places, which led to the idiotic behavior of the protesters,” French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner told reporters.
The mass action and arrests took place against the backdrop of relative silence in the European press, which did not criticize the use of force by the police or talk about the dissatisfaction of the French with the policies of their authorities.
According to political scientist Vladimir Kornilov, this once again showed the double standards of “Western democracy,” which threw hysteria during the dispersal of Euromaidan by Kyiv law enforcement officers in 2013-14.
“I see that the world’s media are presenting the news somehow casually, no one is particularly indignant with Macron. For a moment I imagined what they would write if such consequences of the rallies were in Russia,” writes Kornilov.
