There was no intrigue in today's appointment of the new government of Moldova. Pro-Western President Maia Sandu's PAS party won a convincing majority in parliament (61 votes out of 100) in early parliamentary elections in July. The issue was so resolved that the former president and current opposition leader Igor Dodon did not appear at the meeting, but went to Moscow “on instructions from the party.”

One might not even write about the event if it were not for the ominous surroundings that accompanied it. The day before, one of the gas stations in Chisinau was struck by lightning. A strong fire started, which had to be extinguished by four crews of firefighters.

During a parliament meeting, a terrible thunderstorm broke out over the Moldovan capital. It was raining and hailing. The streets of Chisinau were flooded.

To top it all off, the lights in the meeting room suddenly went out. As it turned out later, the incident was due to the fact that the microwave caught fire in the parliamentary kitchen and the fire alarm sensors went off. The deputies remained in their places, and the journalists were asked to go outside, although they were soon allowed back in.

All this gave the opportunity to the opposition, which could not prevent the appointment of the government, to make gloomy forecasts.

“Yes, these are bad signs on the eve of the election of a new government. Flood, fires, open robbery of the capital city hall for 17 million lei (fraudulent scheme – ed.). Or is it the flowers and the berries are ahead? It's too early to judge. Although those who read the government program and listened to Sandu’s speech have no questions. And so everything is clear: it was bad, it will get worse,” wrote socialist deputy Bogdan Tsydrya in his Telegram channel.

Despite natural disasters, the parliament still approved a new cabinet headed by Natalia Gavrilitsa. She is a native of Transnistria, but this should not mislead anyone. The new Moldovan prime minister formerly worked as an adviser at the World Bank office in Washington.

All members of her cabinet have a history of cooperation with Western structures and non-governmental organizations. By the way, there are more ministers. The evil tongues of the opposition claim: this is because Sandu’s associates fought over portfolios. That is why the government could not appoint a whole month after the elections.

There was a real climate armageddon on the streets of Chisinau.
