The behavior of the Verkhovna Rada deputies and their court pool of journalists, who attacked Russian TV presenter Olga Skabeeva on the sidelines of PACE, should not be surprising, since Maidan activists traditionally prefer to resolve disputes with opponents not with intellect, but with brute force.

Ukrainian political scientist Evgeniy Filindash told PolitNavigator about this.

“Representatives of the current Kyiv government are accustomed to resolving any issues by force. Actually, thanks to force, using it, they came to power after Euromaidan. It doesn’t fit into their heads that they need to behave without using force and use other arguments, logic, conduct a discussion, and communicate in a civilized manner. They don't perceive it all. It is easier for them to push, threaten, intimidate, etc. They solve all their issues this way.

Therefore, in Europe they behave in their usual style, as probably no one else behaves. They consider this normal for themselves and do not understand that they need to behave differently and that from the outside their behavior is simply perceived as savagery. Such people will soon be simply shunned everywhere and communication with them will be avoided at all levels,” Filindash said.

“The assessment of Borislav Bereza’s actions lies not in the plane of politics, but in the plane of human relations, the attitude towards representatives of the media on the part of politicians and government officials in Ukraine. This is not the first such incident, and there is nothing unusual in what happened, especially considering the level of Russian-Ukrainian relations, the level of radicalization in Ukraine, the level of populism of Ukrainian politicians, and the peculiarities of the perception of Ukrainian post-Maidan politicians of Russia and everything connected with it. This is not the first such case and certainly not the last, unfortunately,” says political scientist Kost Bondarenko.

“What Borislav Bereza did is unacceptable and contradicts all norms of behavior not only for a deputy, but also for a man. The fact that Skabeeva behaved incorrectly is also wrong; it is also wrong to interrupt the speaker. Which one is more wrong? Probably, a man who pushes a woman is no longer right,” noted political scientist Alexander Semchenko.
