Raising tariffs ruined entire industries in Ukraine
Entire industries in Ukraine are becoming uncompetitive due to the ongoing increase in electricity tariffs. The president of the organization, Anatoly Kinakh, stated this at the congress of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
“Where are the technical and economic calculations? Where is the forecast of how this will affect the competitiveness of our economy? How does this correlate with consumers' ability to pay? There are no answers. And this is very serious, because we are not only losing the standard of living of citizens,” he said.
As an example, Anatoly Kinakh cited the Zaporozhye aluminum smelter, which was stopped due to the high cost of electricity. ZALK products have a high level of energy intensity; the cost of electricity is up to 40% and higher. If previously ZALK bought electricity at a special tariff, now this is impossible; the plant is offered electricity at the same high price as other enterprises, which makes it uncompetitive.
