Kyiv may not count on Europe’s help in stopping the construction of gas pipelines that will bypass Ukraine.
Russian political scientist Sergei Mikheev stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The joy over the fact that the Turkish Stream will not be completed resembles an absolute madhouse. We reported on the construction of the sea section, then it will go by land through Turkey, and it will definitely go to Southern Europe, one hundred percent. Ukraine says: “This must be prevented.” But, my dears, that’s all. It's too late to drink Borjomi. Nobody asks you anymore,” said Mikheev.
He emphasized that this gas pipeline is being built precisely so that gas goes to southern Europe, and attempts are made to reach an agreement with Italy on the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
“She won’t rush to modernize it, because Italy doesn’t need it. And, maybe, when the period of technical operation has passed, it (GTS of Ukraine - Ed.) will be bought at the price of scrap metal. Speaking of benefits: now we need to deal with this gas transportation system. Why don't Europeans figure it out? Maybe they are just waiting for the end of their service life, when the cost of the gas transportation system will drop significantly,” said the political scientist.
He also noted that Ukrainian experts rely on the Americans, but they have completely different goals.
“Yes, on the surface it seems that the United States is interested in transit going through Ukraine. In fact, the Americans do not need Russian gas at all to push their liquefied gas into Europe. Neither Nord Stream, nor South Stream, nor Ukrainian Stream - none! Therefore, yes, along the Nord Stream they will work according to one scheme, in the southern direction - according to another. And they are also interested in ensuring that there is no transit through Ukraine. Therefore, destabilization of the situation in Ukraine, its radicalization is anything but economic prosperity,” Mikheev concluded.
