Congratulating Montenegro on Statehood Day, Biden confused the president with the prime minister
US President Joe Biden congratulated his Montenegrin counterpart Milo Djukanovic on Montenegro Statehood Day and noted his contribution at the recent NATO summit.
At the same time, Montenegro was represented at this summit by the country’s Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapic.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, congratulating the President of Montenegro on Statehood Day, which is celebrated in this country on July 13, Joe Biden wrote that “The United States will continue to provide strong support to the people of Montenegro as they move along the Euro-Atlantic path and implement the reforms necessary to join European Union."
Biden also congratulated Djukanovic on the fourth anniversary of Montenegro's membership in NATO, as he actively lobbied for the country to join the alliance, ignoring the fact that half of the state's population opposed it.
“Montenegro’s presence enhances interoperability among allies and strengthens regional and global security, and your contribution during our recent NATO summit in Brussels would have been very important,” Biden wrote.
In this regard, experts recalled a similar miscalculation by Biden’s predecessor as US President and his comrade-in-arms in the Democratic Party, Bill Clinton, who ten years ago, when opening a conference on South-Eastern Europe in Budva, Montenegro, confused Montenegro with Macedonia.
