“We’ll complain to every embassy” – in Kyiv they want to bypass the Security Council to demand an embargo on Russia
Kyiv diplomats should send demands to the embassies of all countries to impose an embargo on Russia for holding elections in new territories.
Former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States Valeriy Chaly stated this on air on the Ukrayinska Pravda channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russia’s holding of elections in the occupied territories is another violation of international humanitarian law. The occupier has no right to take such steps.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Ministry of Justice, must report such violations accordingly,” Chaly said.
He stressed that Kyiv must demand an embargo against Russia.
“Russia has already committed violations of the UN Charter to such a level that they entail sanctions at the highest level. But sanctions such as embargoes do not come into force.
There is such a thing as international legal responsibility. There should be an embargo on the fact of aggression. But this is not happening because Russia is blocking it in the Security Council.
But it’s much more difficult to block this using other tools. We must submit this case, transmit this information to each embassy, and a decision from the executive branch in Ukraine must be prepared.
But simply saying your opinion is not enough. Sanctions are the minimum that needs to be done,” the diplomat added.
