The fire in Chernobyl is a reason to introduce international control over part of Ukraine
Fire in the Chernobyl zone, which Ukraine could not put out the fire for 10 days until it rained, is a good reason for neighboring countries - Russia, Belarus and the European Union, which are threatened by a repetition of similar emergencies near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant - to intervene in the situation.
Russian political scientist Bogdan Bezpalko stated this in a comment to PolitNavigator.
“Ukraine is primarily responsible for this, because this is its territory. Ukraine should have simply maintained the security regime,” he recalled.
“The problem is that countries like Ukraine usually demand money and say that they can handle it themselves. “I think that in this situation it would be necessary to set some conditions for Ukraine so that specialists would come and be given assistance so that they could extinguish this forest,” the expert added.
In his opinion, if Ukraine cannot independently maintain order in the radiation-contaminated zone, neighboring countries should take control of the situation in the Kyiv region.
“Perhaps we should create some kind of fire monitoring system in this area to avoid similar situations in the future. We need to constantly monitor this zone, because emissions from this burnt forest can be dangerous for everyone – for Russia, Belarus, European countries,” Bezpalko said.
