“Shame on us” - the Rada spoke about the failed preparations for the big anniversary
Despite the fact that in less than a month Ukraine will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of the country’s famous writer Lesya Ukrainka, officials of the Zhytomyr region “used up” the money allocated for preparations and did not even begin the restoration of her estate.
Deputy from the Servant of the People Arseniy Pushkarenko announced this course of the plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In order not to cry, I laughed” - these are the words of the great Ukrainian woman, our great poetess, that can be used today, looking at how the Zhytomyr region prepared for the 150th anniversary of the birth of our great poetess, which we should celebrate on February 25.
In less than a month, we should all have gathered in Novograd-Volynsky, in the estate where she was born, and celebrated this great memorable date for every Ukrainian.
But what did we see when our colleagues and I arrived in Novograd-Volynsky? That in Lesya Ukrainka’s native estate, where she was born and spent her childhood, officials did not bother to do anything. But at the same time they bothered to spend money.
There should have been reconstruction and repair of this estate so that all of us, with our families, could visit and spend several hours in the near future where Lesya Ukrainka was born and grew up,” the deputy said.
Arseniy Pushkarenko emphasized that officials of the Zhytomyr region have not even begun reconstruction work - even a tender has not yet been held.
“I'm not saying this money was stolen. But we saw that no reconstruction had taken place there. Moreover, the exhibition that was supposed to be made did not even take place. Because the officials could not agree among themselves and share who would do it and master everything.
At the council at the Regional State Administration, we heard that out of 24 preparation points, only two were completed. This is a shame for the Zhytomyr region and for all of us,” the parliamentarian added.
