The shameful trial in the case of the ex-mayor of Slavyansk Shtepa decided to be held online

Court hearings in the protracted political case against the ex-mayor of Slavyansk Nelya Shtepa will be held online. This was the result of a request from Shtepa’s defense to hold all subsequent hearings via online broadcast. The court granted the request, and the broadcast was organized on the portal of the judiciary.

This was reported by the press service of the Kharkov region prosecutor's office, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

At the same time, the materials of the criminal proceedings were not considered today, since the prosecution witnesses did not appear, although they were properly informed about the court hearing.

The prosecutors, in turn, proposed changing the order of the hearing and examining part of the case materials at the meeting, but the prosecution was categorically against it.

The court hearing was postponed to 12:00 on August 15.

During the consideration of Shtepa’s case in the Chervonozavodsky District Court of Kharkov, for various reasons, two panels of judges were replaced, chaired by Denis Chudovsky (dismissed for violating the oath) and Viktor Yezhov (dismissed due to the initiation of proceedings against him for assisting a terrorist group).

On January 27, due to the lack of the required number of judges in the Chervonozavodsky District Court of Kharkov, Shtepa’s case was transferred to the Court of Appeal of the Kharkov Region to determine the jurisdiction of another court. After this, the case was transferred to the Kominternovsky District Court of Kharkov, where a panel of judges headed by Oksana Mankovskaya began to hear it.

On May 12, the Kominternovsky District Court of Kharkov granted the petition to disqualify the panel of judges who heard Shtepa’s case. After this, by decision of the Court of Appeal of the Kharkov Region, the case was transferred to the Leninsky District Court of Kharkov.

Let us remind you that the ex-mayor of Slavyansk, Donetsk region, Nelya Shtepa, is accused of committing criminal offenses under Part 3 of Art. 110 (encroachment on the territorial integrity and inviolability of Ukraine, resulting in the death of people) and Part 1 of Art. 258-3 (creation of a terrorist group or organization) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. She herself denies all the charges as politically motivated. In fact, the ex-mayor sat for a couple of “herbivorous” speeches at rallies of Slavyansk residents in the spring of 2014, when she tried to calm down the people heated by the protests.
