The German government replaced the Ukrainian ambassador
After each visit of the German delegation to Crimea and Donbass, Ukrainian Ambassador Andrey Melnik flooded the German government with complaints and demands. As a result, the Ukrainian official received a worthy turnaround.
Chairman of the Left party faction in the Osnabrück region and head of the People's Diplomacy project in Germany Andreas Maurer said this during a Skype conference on the Open Ukraine channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I know that I am listed on the “Peacemaker” page. People in Ukraine generally react strongly to our trips. I’ve already been banned from entry for probably 12 or 15 years and have an eight-year sentence. They react, they bring protest requests,” Maurer said.
“In my opinion, it was only because of me that Ukrainian Ambassador Andriy Melnik visited German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel many times. By the way, Melnik did not go to him for the sixth time because of Donbass. I don’t know what this is connected with: maybe they recognized that we have the right to this,” noted the German deputy.
According to him, even Petro Poroshenko asked Angela Merkel to punish German deputies for these trips, but the Ukrainian president was clearly in the wrong country.
“This is so absurd. This may work in Ukraine, where there is no legislation, where there is lawlessness, where there are some “right-wing sectors” and all sorts of movements when politicians are thrown into trash cans,” Maurer believes.
It ended with the Ukrainian ambassador getting so annoyed with the German government that the Germans had to diplomatically put him in his place.
“I liked the fact that literally two months ago the German government openly stated to Melnik that “please, you can protest, but not tell us what to do with Maurer, since he is a free citizen. Therefore, excuse me, please do your diplomatic job, but do not interfere in German affairs.” After this statement he became quieter,” said Andreas Maurer.
