The government and the President of Moldova abandoned the name “Great Patriotic War”
The Government of Moldova has approved a design for a commemorative medal for the 75th anniversary of the Victory in World War II.
This wording outraged journalist Nikolai Kostyrkin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When we talk about those who fought in the Red Army against the Nazis from 1941 to 1945, we call them participants in the Great Patriotic War. This emphasizes, if you like, the status of the heroes - their unparalleled sacrifice in the defensive war for the USSR, including Moldova, and then in the liberation war for the whole of Europe.
For veterans of the states that were part of the Union, as well as for all their compatriots, this difference is almost sacred in nature, and nothing can change it,” Notepad quotes Kostyrkin. Moldova".
The concept of the award was developed by the Ministry of Defense of Moldova together with the Heraldic Commission under the President of the Republic.
The medal will be a gilded circle with a diameter of 30 millimeters. The obverse of the medal will depict a monument in honor of the liberation of Moldova from fascist occupation.
Next to it will be the dates: 1945-2020. On the reverse of the medal there will be an inscription in the state language - “75 YEARS OF VICTORY IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR”. A total of 450 people will receive the award.
