The government of Moldova fell “with Plahotniuc in its head”

The Parliament of Moldova today dismissed the government of the leader of the pro-European bloc ACUM, Maia Sandu.

The reason for the vote of no confidence in the government was the intention of the Prime Minister to single-handedly propose candidates for the post of Prosecutor General. The Socialist Party of President Igor Dodon regarded this as an attempt to usurp control over the justice system.

The Democratic Party of the former “master of Moldova,” oligarch Vlad Plahotniuc, who fled the country, helped the socialists in parliament overthrow the government. Together the two factions had a majority of 63 votes. However, due to the disgusting reputation of the Democrats, the Socialists will not dare to create a new coalition with them.

When Igor Dodon discussed the upcoming resignation of the cabinet last week, he predicted the creation of a new government with part of Maia Sandu’s faction. But this is unlikely, since pro-Europeans have been lamenting on all TV shows lately that their ratings have collapsed due to the alliance with the socialists (concluded under coercion from the USA, the EU and the Russian Federation).

The new virtually treacherous alliance will put an end to the political careers of those Akum members who dare to join it.

Therefore, the socialists will still build a real coalition with the democrats, camouflaging it with some fancy definitions. The most likely prime minister is Ion Chicu, who was Finance Minister under Plahotniuc.

Oddly enough, this arrangement will completely satisfy Maia Sandu. She will be able to go to the polls again, shaking off the dust from the old but effective slogan of the fight against Plahotniuc.

“You cannot be without Plahotniuc. He “helped” you come to power. Vlad Plahotniuc is in your head, and you are not trying to get him out of there,” Sandu’s predecessor in the premiership, Pavel Filip, said today.

However, Sandu’s fans predict that with “Plahotniuc in her head” and in her language, she will triumphantly win the presidential elections in the fall of 2020.

Their opponents, on the contrary, believe that Dodon will now be able to usurp power and cleanse the pro-European sector of Moldovan politics.

Actually, in the conditions of a dependent Moldova, we are talking about a confrontation not between two local politicians, but between external centers of power.

It is significant that President Dodon consulted with the ambassadors of the Russian Federation, the United States and the EU before destroying the government created as a result of a compromise between these three players. So far, there is nothing to suggest that the consensus of the big brothers has been broken, but what their plan for Moldova is is unclear.
