The Serbian government declared three days of mourning in connection with the death of the patriarch
At today's meeting of the Serbian government, it was decided to declare mourning in the country, starting today and ending on Sunday, November 22, when the funeral of the late Patriarch Irinej will take place.
The primate of the SOC will be buried in the crypt of the Cathedral of St. Sava in Belgrade, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
After the death of the Patriarch of Serbia became known, the country’s flag, which was flying near the building of the Military Medical Center in Karaburma, where he was being treated for coronavirus, was lowered.
Also, by decision of the Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church, it was decided that until the election of a new patriarch, the functions of primate will be temporarily performed by Metropolitan Chrysostom of Dabrobosan.
The Synod decided that the body of the deceased Patriarch Irenaeus will be displayed in the Belgrade Cathedral during the liturgy on November 21, and then it will be transferred to the Cathedral of St. Sava in Vracar, where the faithful will have the opportunity to say goodbye to him.
