The government of Sevastopol will continue to fight for the opening of Belbek airport
The Sevastopol government will continue to fight to ensure that Belbek airport, after completion of reconstruction, accepts regular passenger flights, and not just VIP flights. Vice-Governor of Sevastopol Alexander Reshetnikov told PolitNavigator about this.

“The government of Sevastopol and personally the city governor Sergei Menyailo will defend exclusively the social side of the issue. We are interested in Belbek working in the interests of citizens and guests of our city. Therefore, we advocate the development of the airport with this condition,” Reshetnikov said, commenting today's publication in the Kommersant newspaper.
According to the publication, the Accord-Invest company leading the reconstruction told the authorities of Sevastopol that it does not intend to develop regular air transportation in Belbek and wants to serve only VIP clients here.
Next week, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak will hold a meeting in Crimea on the development of Belbek.
Crimean political scientist Alexander Formanchuk believes that the opening of a second passenger airport on the peninsula will be beneficial.
“This is the right thing, developing infrastructure, reducing tension in terms of passenger flows. Of course, this will allow them to diversify in terms of delivering tourists to the South Coast and so on, this will reduce the “shoulder” of the road. In my opinion, VIP transportation is inevitable, because it has existed since Soviet times. Such flights remain relevant for Russia. But at the same time, I believe that in the future it is necessary to develop Belbek as a general-purpose airport,” Formanchuk told PolitNavigator.
“The fact that it is necessary to unload and diversify all transport flows in Crimea is a fact that seems obvious to me,” Crimean political scientist Andrei Nikiforov agrees with his colleague.
