Government of Ukraine: Either Russia returns Donbass to us, or everything remains as it is
Ukraine hopes to persuade Russia to “merge” Donbass under the control of Kyiv, but if this fails, the conflict will remain in its current state.
Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba said this on Radio Liberty, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The president has a clear picture of where to go. Now all efforts are aimed at the de-occupation and reintegration of Donbass, and the president is fulfilling the promise he made to the Ukrainian people during the elections about a ceasefire.
We are all realists and understand that Ukraine’s desire to end the war is not enough; Russia’s desire is also necessary. Therefore the scheme is very simple.
All efforts that are currently being made should have only two possible endings: either certain agreements on de-occupation will be reached, or everything will remain as it is.
Then, obviously, all this will be put on pause, due to the fact that all parties involved will want a review. The next time it happens, it will be more difficult to negotiate,” Kuleba said.
