The Ukrainian government artificially lowers pensions
A significant portion of Ukrainian pensioners receive miserable pensions, since the cost of living is deliberately lowered at the government level.
Social issues expert Andrei Pavlovsky stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our government has artificially significantly lowered the standard of the basic social minimum. In fact, the social standards approved by the government are two times lower than the actual indicators calculated by the same Ministry of Social Policy based on current consumer prices.
The government approved the living wage for people who have lost their ability to work on January 1 at the level of 1497 hryvnia, and the Ministry of Social Policy believes that the actual living wage in January was 2900 hryvnia.
That is, the cost of living is actually half that required for the physiological survival of the same pensioners. And in our country, about 2 million people receive a pension at the subsistence level, and a pension of about 2 thousand hryvnia - half of the pensioners, 7,5 million pensioners,” said Pavlovsky.
