The Ukrainian government will continue to tighten the noose around the Ukrainian neck
The Ukrainian authorities will have to increase tariffs for housing and communal services from May of this year, since this is one of the key conditions stated in the memorandum with the IMF.
Co-chairman of the Energy Strategies Fund Dmitry Marunich stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Tariffs will continue to rise. Of course, the Cabinet of Ministers may not decide to further increase the gas tariff by 18% from May 1, 2019, as agreed with Western creditors. But then the state of Ukraine will not fulfill the memorandum with the IMF. And the next tranche, which is urgently needed to cover debts, simply will not happen. Gas tariffs are a key requirement. And then macroeconomic stability is in big question. And it is unclear what will happen to the economy, to the hryvnia exchange rate by the end of the year,” Marunich said.
