Moscow - Simferopol, March 6 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - State Duma Deputy Roman Khudyakov sent an appeal to the government and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation with a request to consider the possibility of creating a department of antiquities of Crimea, they report "News". According to the parliamentarian, such a measure can save the cultural and historical heritage of the peninsula from looting and unprofessional use. The structure is expected to be modeled after the Israel Antiquities Authority, which regulates excavations and conservation of sites and promotes archaeological research.

The appeal states that inaction and lack of clear regulation regarding the development of archaeological sites can lead to irreparable losses for state funds. It is known that on the peninsula in different historical periods there were settlements of the Greeks, Goths and Scythians, who left behind a large number of historical artifacts. Some of the already discovered finds were looted by both “black diggers” and official Kiev. And in order to stop further destruction of the cultural and historical layer, it is necessary to create a specialized administrative apparatus.

According to the deputy’s proposal, by analogy with the Israeli department, the Department of Antiquities will have to be divided into divisions responsible for two federal subjects - Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol. The functions of the new body will include regular monitoring of ancient monuments, approval of development plans and monitoring of the implementation of work on the rescue and conservation of archaeological finds, as well as excavations initiated by research institutions. In addition, units will be able to conduct their own excavations with the help of permanent staff and temporary workers, including the work of documenting the results of excavations and submitting them for publication.
