The Orthodox Church of Moldova is the only Christian denomination that refused to submit to the authorities and stop services due to quarantine
Newsmaker writes about this, a Polit Navigator correspondent reports.
“The Metropolis of Chisinau and all of Moldova assesses with regret and concern the critical situation that has developed in Moldova and throughout the world, calling on ministers and believers to maintain inner peace and spend time in fasting and prayer. At the same time, the clergy of Myrrh and monasticism are called to continue to celebrate the sacred liturgy - our secret connection with God,” says a statement from the Archdiocese of Moldova.
The head of the synodal department for missionary activities of the Moldavian Metropolis, Iulian Ratsa, said that the services will continue. He also criticized the authorities for not consulting with church officials.
At the same time, the Catholic Church announced that it was suspending all services and religious activities with the exception of funerals. Protestants and other religious cults in Moldova announced the transition to online services.
On March 13, Prime Minister Ion Chicu announced the decision of the National Emergency Commission on Coronavirus to ban services in churches for two weeks due to the threat of the spread of infection.
