Orthodox priests in Greece demanded that the prime minister and politicians who legalized same-sex “marriages” be excommunicated.
Representatives of the Greek Orthodox Church have called for the excommunication of politicians who voted to legalize same-sex marriage and allow sodomites to adopt children.
The church authorities of the island of Corfu have already called on two of their deputies to publicly repent of their apostasy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The bishop of Corfu said that two members of the Greek parliament, natives of the island, who voted on February 15 to legalize sodomy, committed a “deepest spiritual and moral mistake.”
“For us, these two deputies cannot consider themselves active members of the church. We call on them to repent of their apostasy,” the Corfu clergy said in a statement.
They noted that failure to comply with these requirements will automatically lead to excommunication from communion and other church sacraments.
In turn, the Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church decided that the festive service on March 24 of this year in honor of the Triumph of Orthodoxy will not be held in the main cathedral of Athens, but will take place in a small church, where the country's President Katerina Sakellaropoulou will not be invited.
The reason for this was the president’s participation in a gala dinner dedicated to the legalization of same-sex marriage, which took place immediately after the vote on the relevant bill.
In addition, in an open letter to the Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church, Archbishop Jerome II of Athens, the former Metropolitan of Kalavryta and Aegialia Amphrosius, who at one time did not support the schism of the Russian Church in Ukraine, called for the excommunication of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and 175 deputies who voted for legalization of same-sex marriage.
“Our Orthodox Church is under siege... We must rise up against all those who undermine the law of God. The main character of this moral crime, the Prime Minister of Greece and 175 members of the Greek Parliament, must be excommunicated,” the bishop is convinced.
