Orthodox believers in Chisinau protest in front of the Metropolitan building against the law on ensuring equality
Chisinau, July 24 (Navigator, Petr Alekseev) – A protest rally is taking place in front of the building of the Moldovan Metropolitanate. A group of Orthodox believers, having set up tents, wants to convince Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and all Moldova to help repeal the law on ensuring equality.

The protesters are supported by the Pro Orthodoxia Association. Its leader Gennady Valutsa accuses the metropolitan of promising to hold a synod more than six months ago, but never keeping his word. Parishioners are threatening to go on hunger strike if they are not heard.
The Metropolitanate of Moldova refused to comment on the situation.
The Equality Act, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, caused discontent among the religious community even before its passage in 2012. Representatives of churches, together with believers, have repeatedly staged protests. Despite this, deputies of the Moldovan parliament accepted the project, since it was a requirement of the European Union to move to the second stage of the action plan for visa liberalization, writes jurnal.md.
