The Orthodox Metropolitan received the fourth criminal case from the SBU
In Ukraine, repressions against priests of canonical Orthodoxy continue.
Thus, the Metropolitan of the Cherkassy diocese of the UOC, Theodosius, received another suspicion, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On the Metropolitan’s account, this is already the fourth episode of his subversive activities against Ukraine. Let us recall that in 2023 he was already given 3 suspicions for inciting interreligious hatred and denying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. The materials of these cases have been sent to court.
This time, it was established that after preliminary suspicions were announced, the cleric continued to spread fake news among his parishioners about the “seizure” of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Cherkassy and the expulsion of church ministers from there,” the SBU press service reports.
As follows from the explanations of the Ukrainian special service, a new suspicion was raised for criticism of schismatics, since “in his sermons the Metropolitan tried to discredit clergy of other faiths.”
“Based on the collected evidence, he was informed of another suspicion under Art. 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the equality of citizens depending on their religious beliefs, committed repeatedly by an official). While the issue of changing his preventive measure to a more severe one is being decided. The investigation is ongoing. The attacker faces up to 8 years in prison,” the SBU threatens.
Let us note that in November last year, the court in Cherkassy refused to take Feodosius into custody, but sent him under house arrest and wearing an electronic bracelet. The Metropolitan stated then that the case against him was political, far-fetched and falsified.
