The new police law could seriously restrict the rights of Ukrainian citizens.
The corresponding conclusions were made public by Alexander Banchuk, an expert at the Center for Political and Legal Reforms.

According to him, the police receive the right to create a database on any citizen without a court decision.
“In fact, any police officer, when exercising his powers, has the right to prompt, unhindered access to all information about a person. This violates both European standards and the constitutional framework for the protection of personal and family life (Article 32 of the Constitution of Ukraine), since the possibility of such access should only be in cases of pre-trial investigation,” the lawyer notes.
In addition, according to Art. 37 police received the right to seize a citizen’s belongings or vehicle if they believe that they can be used to encroach on the life of the owner.
“This formulation gives the police the right to seize a car on the grounds that, perhaps, its driver may slide into a hole in one or two kilometers, etc.,” adds Banchuk.
The lawyer also notes such “undemocratic” provisions of the law as the mandatory carrying of a passport with you and the forced taking of fingerprints and other biometric data of a person.
