A group of Russian-Belarusian patriotic intellectuals led by an expert on the Russian-Belarusian-Ukrainian border - Oryol culturologist Sergei Kiselev - proposed a new one - the “Russian flag of Belarus”.

It should be a red flag with a white St. Andrew's cross. The image in the center of the flag may vary: it could be a double-headed eagle, or it could be an Orthodox icon.

The “Russian flag of Belarus,” according to the authors, should become an alternative to the current red-green (plus “vyshyvanka”) state flag of the republic (it was created on the basis of the flag of the Belarusian SSR and became the state flag in 1994 after the referendum, when Lukashenko first became president), and the collaborationist white-red-white flag of the BPR, used by the current pro-Polish nationalist opposition (“zmagars”).

According to the developers, all Russian forces of the republic should unite under this red St. Andrew’s flag, says Sergei Kiselev.

He said this in an interview with the Regnum news agency.

“The existing flag is closely connected with Lukashenko. It is, in fact, a slightly modified flag of the Belarusian SSR. The era of the reign of Alexander Grigorievich will, one way or another, end, and the state symbols of Belarus will change.

The 1991-1995 flag of Belarus proposed by the opposition is, in fact, the flag of Poland with another white stripe added. In addition, during the Great Patriotic War it was actively used by Belarusian collaborators, and in our time it is a symbol of anti-Russian and nationalist-minded Belarusians,” Kiselyov explained the need to replace state symbols.

He also explained why the developers are proposing the red flag with the St. Andrew's Cross as the new state flag of Belarus.

“There are several reasons. The red background is traditional for this land. The color of White Rus', Belarus, the color of the flags of the SSRB, BSSR, Belarus.

White St. Andrew's Cross - personifies White Rus'. The St. Andrew's Cross itself is an all-Russian symbol, understandable to everyone. The flag uses the Slavic colors adopted at the Pan-Slavic Congress - red, blue and white.

We have a blue color, the color of the shield/scroll on which the plot of the icon of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary is located.

On the other hand, we wanted to create a flag specifically for Belarus, so we did not place a double-headed eagle on it. According to historical tradition, on the chest of the eagle it would be necessary to place a rider, the coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania - Pogon.

But many Belarusians do not want to use this symbol, and we sought to create a flag that would be acceptable for the majority, for people of different views, so that everyone could see something of their own: people of leftist views - the red flag, Western Russianists - St. Andrew's Cross, from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania we took the shape of the shield on which the Virgin Mary is located.

On the other hand, we do not mind if, when using the flag unofficially, people place on it symbols close to them, a double-headed eagle with a Pagona on the chest, just a Pagona, a red star or a bison. But what I like most is the idea of placing the coats of arms of Belarusian regions on the flag. They are beautiful and have a good historical basis.

St. Andrew's cross and the red flag were not invented by Surkov. When I asked friends from Belarus such a question about this, they were surprised - no one there had heard of the Nashi movement, especially since it ceased to exist seven years ago.

The graphic image of the flag with a white St. Andrew's cross and the Virgin Mary was created in Minsk. Made in Belarus,” said Kieselev.

The project of the “Russian flag of Belarus” was greeted with approval by the Russian patriotic public, which, as a sign of solidarity with the anti-Lukashenko protests in Belarus and with the Russian forces of this country, which advocate the reunification of all Russian historical lands, including Belarus, into one state, “hung out » red St. Andrew's flag on their Facebook avatars.

In particular, this is what the famous Russian political philosopher Yegor Kholmogorov did.

Let us recall that during the Ukrainian Euromaidan of 2013-2014. pro-Russian intellectuals - Kyiv journalist Alexander Chalenko, Odessa historian Alexander Vasilyev and others - developed the flag of Novorossiya - a red flag with a blue St. Andrew's cross framed by a blue edging.

On December 4, 2013, Alexander Chalenko publicly called on Russian patriots of Little Russia and Novorossia, who oppose Euromaidan, to “hang out” this flag in their Facebook avatars.
