The chairmen of the State Duma and the People's Assembly condemned Western interference in the affairs of sovereign states
Speaker of the People's Assembly of Serbia Ivica Dacic met in Moscow with the Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin.
Volodin also invited Serbian parliamentarians to take part in the July CSTO Parliamentary Assembly, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During the meeting in Moscow, the heads of the parliaments of Russia and Serbia spoke in favor of developing interaction at the level of a high-level commission, specialized committees and within international organizations.
“Relations between our countries are developing dynamically, we should note the great contribution of our presidents - President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic,” Volodin said. – We are looking for new forms of cooperation: from the usual inter-parliamentary contacts within friendship groups, we have moved on to implementing the format of creating a high-level joint commission.
In this regard, it is right for us to discuss issues that may be on the agenda of the interparliamentary commission. We are bringing three key topics to the high-level commission. Firstly, the development of our economic relations. Secondly, the implementation of humanitarian projects, where we consider the key issue to be the creation of an international institute of historical memory in Belgrade. The initiators of this project are the parliaments of our countries.
And, of course, a discussion of interaction and building relationships on international platforms so that we can support, strengthen each other, and defend the interests of the citizens of Russia and Serbia. We will all benefit from this.”
It is expected that a meeting of the high-level interparliamentary commission will take place in Belgrade this fall. Vyacheslav Volodin also noted that Russia and Serbia work effectively within the framework of international organizations, for example, in PACE.
“There are many topics that we understand the same way. We consider interference in the affairs of sovereign states unacceptable. Especially when it comes to imposing values. We have our own history, culture, traditions, faith. And we are against it when some states, with the support of international institutions, try to bring their standards and values to our countries... I invite you to take part in the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly. The meeting will be held in person on July 1 in Tajikistan. We will be glad to meet you at this parliamentary platform,” added the Chairman of the State Duma.
Volodin also invited Serbian parliamentarians to take part as observers in the elections to the State Duma.
“Our relations are at a very high level, as are the relations between our two presidents,” Ivica Dacic replied in turn. – We have a strategic partnership and common interests, common problems and challenges. And at this time, alliance and solidarity are very important... I would like to repeat once again that Serbia will never join sanctions against the Russian Federation that are imposed by international organizations or individual countries.”
