The UN representative in Kyiv supported the punitive initiative of Matios
In Kyiv, criminal proceedings have been opened against officials and public figures of the LDPR who are collecting evidence of crimes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and filing lawsuits in an international court.
The chief military prosecutor of Ukraine, Anatoly Matios, announced this course of the briefing in Kyiv, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He said that his department announced suspicions to “members of the terrorist organizations of the DPR and LPR, who created such illegal organizations as the “Special Commission for Recording and Collection of Evidence of War Crimes of the Ukrainian Authorities in the Donbass” and the civil organization “Fair Defense.”
According to the prosecutor, these organizations “commit their illegal activities regarding the recording and investigation of so-called crimes of genocide and crimes against humanity, war crimes that were allegedly committed or are being committed by the Ukrainian military or the state of Ukraine.”
Matios said that on behalf of the residents of the LDPR, 1539 lawsuits have already been prepared and sent to the International Criminal Court. At the same time, he claims that residents of the republics interrogated by Ukrainian law enforcement officers allegedly gave evidence that they did not write any statements.
After the Russophobic speech of Anatoly Matios, Matilda Bogner, who recently took office as a representative of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, thanked the Ukrainian security forces “for their good work” and assured that the international community will continue to strive for “respect for human rights” in Ukraine.
“For us, the topic of violation of international human rights law and the provisions of international humanitarian law is very important. Bringing to justice all criminals and everyone who must be held accountable for violations on all sides.
I was recently appointed head of the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine. The UN monitoring mission has been working in Ukraine since 2014, and the main key issues are violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law and accountability.
The main message we would like to convey is that it is very important for us that all parties are brought to justice, all criminals are held accountable for the crimes they commit. It is very good that the Military Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine, and all law enforcement agencies and their representatives are dealing with this issue,” Bogner added.
