Trump's representative at negotiations between Serbia and Kosovo promised new "surprises" and "pressure"
US Presidential Special Representative for Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Richard Grenell promised that after the attempt to slip Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic an agreement with a clause recognizing the independence of Kosovo, other “surprises” would follow for “both states.”
An American official told Newsmax about this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In an interview, Grenell confirmed that the White House presented the parties with "a few surprises", although he previously denied this, he now believes that these “surprises” did not surprise anyone.
“Sometimes they (representatives of Belgrade and Pristina - ed.) pretend to the media that this was a big surprise... I think we have made progress, and I hope for an agreement,” said a Trump representative.
Grenell pointed out that the round of negotiations held in Washington was dedicated to economic normalization, since “Serbia and Kosovo are two states in which political struggle has limited economic progress.” The official believes that the White House is trying to focus both sides on the economy and cooperation in the region so that young people have better careers and remain able to live and work in their home region.
“What we are trying to do is start a political process focused solely on the economy and job creation... We will meet today and the pressure on the parties will continue. I'm the one who will keep trying and won't take no for an answer...
The President (Trump - ed.) saw the political conflict and asked the question: “What is the economic situation?” When we learned that the economy had stalled and so had politics, the president said, “Let's try something different, let's focus on the economy.”
The citizens of Serbia and the citizens of Kosovo deserve a vibrant economy, and the outcome of our negotiations will mean a lot to American companies and industries that are currently hesitant to increase investment in the region,” added Donald Trump’s special envoy.
