“The recent meeting in Tbilisi took place in full accordance with international agreements, with the obligations of official Georgia, with one hundred percent security guarantees and in the presence of a delegation from 23 countries. Let me remind you that we use four languages – English, Russian, Greek, Arabic, so my speech as president, in accordance with the regulations, was in Russian,” he noted.

“Have you, as the chairman of MAP, or members of MAP, or MAP as a whole, received any apologies from the Georgian authorities?” – asked Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Andrei Klimov.

“The issue is not with the Russian delegation and not with me personally. The International Assembly of Orthodoxy, which was forced to change its location twice, made a decision (I emphasize that this is not ours, but that of the entire delegation) to condemn the Georgian leadership, about the violation of their rights, about the growth of threats, and about the fact that we carried out everything in accordance with regulations for inviting the Georgian side, there is a corresponding statement.

There were no apologies to the international organization or to the parliaments of 23 countries.

Moreover, on the eve of our visit and on the first day, both the speaker of parliament and the representative of the Georgian side said how important it is for the prestige of Georgia to hold assemblies like ours, the OSCE Assembly, sporting events, Georgia has been asking to host this assembly for two years , and not the slightest apology was expressed either verbally or in writing,” the deputy said.

“For 26 years, the parliaments themselves have been inviting our assembly, it usually takes place in the parliament building and the president of the assembly is always in the presidium and leads this meeting. This is a general practice that has never changed in 26 years, it corresponds to our regulations and statutory norms, as stated in the statement,” added Sergei Gavrilov.

In general, he linked the situation in Georgia and Ukraine together.

“The threats that we see along the perimeter of our borders, from mass seizures of churches, arson of churches in Ukraine, discrediting the Church, threats to Orthodox believers from secular authorities and radical military units controlled by them...

We see the same thing in Georgia, where, with the connivance and weakness of the authorities, external forces, primarily NGO employees, actively use anti-Russian, anti-Orthodox slogans to mobilize the radical part of the population, carry out various events, from protecting the rights to use drugs, discrediting Orthodox values , before, subsequently, rocking the situation in an attempt at a coup d'état - these seem to be internal affairs, but all this is happening under anti-Russian and anti-Russian slogans, creating a huge danger not only for our tourists, but also for our traditional ties with the Ukrainian and Georgian people, with our churches, with the cultural presence of Russia in these territories,” Gavrilov said.
