Tikhanovskaya's representative was not allowed into Ukraine
The Kyiv authorities did not allow Valery Kovalevsky, a representative of the self-proclaimed “leader of the Belarusian nation” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, to enter Ukraine.
This was reported by the Belarusian service of the American Radio Liberty, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Kovalevsky planned to visit Kyiv for several days to communicate with the diaspora and hold several working meetings. But at the Polish-Ukrainian border he was denied entry. Tikhanovskaya's representative admitted that this is not the first such case.
“Such incidents have happened before, not only with me, but also with my other colleagues. It happened that we were taken off the train, we waited in the morning when Kyiv would wake up and the SBU would give the go-ahead for travel. But everything was resolved, and we entered Ukraine. Once there was a situation when I was not allowed into Ukraine and was sent back to Poland. Then I made a second attempt the next day and traveled normally to Ukraine,” Kovalevsky said.
He does not know the exact reasons for the failures, but assumes that this may be due to failures in the system, excesses of the performers, or some other circumstances.
“This time, when they didn’t let me in, I was short of time, and I didn’t try again. But the reasons that were given to me were similar to the previous ones: they did not see sufficient grounds for my stay in Ukraine. The basis for this state of affairs is Lukashenko’s decision to drag Belarus into the war, and through this the attitude towards all citizens of the country on the part of Ukraine has changed,” says Kovalevsky.
Many Belarusian oppositionists who fled to Kyiv periodically experience problems with paperwork and are deported to Poland. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has refused to meet with Svetlana Tikhanovskaya for two years.
