The pre-election situation in Ukraine has changed radically
About 9 million Ukrainians are currently abroad and will not take part in the upcoming elections.
Journalist Alexander Dubinsky stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “1+1,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the late 90s, we experienced a brain migration, then Ukraine lost its intellectual potential. After the conflict in the east, those who could work left. People with initiative, who wanted change and could move this layer, left the country. They left for Poland and Russia, no matter how much someone liked it. 2,5 million Ukrainian citizens live in the Russian Federation, 2,5 million in Poland, and about 4 million more are scattered throughout Europe,” Dubinsky said.
In his opinion, migration has fundamentally changed the electoral field.
“The portrait of the voter has changed. Those who remained in Ukraine have a paternalistic type of social behavior. They want the new president to lower gas prices and raise wages. No more interests,” Dubinsky said.
