“The odious interpretation by the Belarusian side of the detention of 33 Russian citizens does not stand up to criticism... The attempt to present what happened as external interference in the affairs of the republic is, to say the least, bewildering...

Consular officers must have immediate access to our citizens. It is necessary to stop whipping up unnecessary negative emotions, especially during the presidential election period,” the statement said.

Diplomats point out that today it is known for sure that the specified group was in transit through Minsk to Istanbul, having all the necessary documents in hand, including air tickets. All logistics on the territory of Belarus were provided by a Belarusian company.

For unknown reasons, the group did not get on their Minsk-Istanbul flight and was forced to stay in Belarus while waiting for the purchase of new air tickets by a Belarusian company. The Belarusian authorities, including the aviation authorities, have all the necessary documents at their disposal to establish the truth.

Let us remind you that the Belarusian authorities and state media called the detained Russians “militants of the Wagner PMC.” They are suspected of “inciting social hostility and calling for violent and aggressive actions against law enforcement officers,” as well as “preparing for mass riots.”

At the same time, this morning, Secretary of State of the Belarusian Security Council Andrei Ravkov announced that the detained Russians were charged with preparing terrorist attacks.

The Belarusian side did not provide evidence of this to Russia.
