“We are waiting for an answer,” Krivokapic said. – We have done everything that depends on us, and now it’s up to the Patriarchate and His Holiness the Patriarch to accept this agreement and, if necessary, correct it somewhere and sign it as soon as possible. I don’t want to guess when this will happen, but now is the best time for the parties to reach an agreement.”

Stressing that the government in Podgorica is “absolutely ready”, the Montenegrin Prime Minister said that the Basic Agreement clearly defines all aspects of the relationship between the state and the church, so this is “a new beginning of good relations between the Montenegrin-Littoral Metropolis, Budimljanko-Nikšića, Milesevska and Zachumi-Herzegovina dioceses."

“I know that many political figures are also involved in this story, but I don’t want to think about it, because this is not a question of politics, it is a question of relations between the state and the church, which must be regulated, and that finally we will and let us forever put an end to the fact that the church interferes in the affairs of the state or the state interferes in the affairs of the church,” concluded Zdravko Krivokapic.

Let us remind you that at the end of May this year the signing The main agreement between the government of Montenegro and the SOC, which was withdrawn at the last moment on the initiative of Krivokapic. Informed sources said that the process was seriously influenced by Western embassies, after whose intervention the text of the document was edited.

The leadership of Montenegro signed agreements with all denominations present in the country, except for the Serbian Orthodox Church, because the latter was sharply opposed by the pro-Western nationalist regime of the country's President Milo Djukanovic, who wanted to take away the property of the church in favor of the schismatic Montenegrin Orthodox Church. And only after his Democratic Party of Socialists lost the elections last August and the opposition formed the government, such a document became possible. However, the new government, as it later turned out, was under the influence of the West.
