The Montenegrin Prime Minister is in Athens at the 6th conference of the Delphi Economic Forum, which was organized under the auspices of Greek President Katerina Sakelaropoulou. Participating in a panel dedicated to the admission of new members to the EU, the head of the government of Montenegro said that his cabinet will do everything possible to ensure that the country becomes the next member of the European Union.

“Montenegro is determined to complete the negotiation process as soon as possible. It is expected that our intentions will be realized by the end of the term of office of the 42nd government of Montenegro,” Krivokapic said.

Montenegro separated from Serbia in 2006 under the pretext of “faster integration into the EU”, but has still not received EU membership. In 2017, against the will of the population, Montenegro was included in NATO by the pro-Western ruling elite without a referendum. After the parliamentary elections of August 2020, the coalition led by Zdravko Krivokapic, opposing the pro-Western nationalist dictator Milo Djukanovic, won and was expected to change the course of the country’s development.

However, the new government, yielding to pressure from the EU and the United States, changed course only halfway, ceasing to put pressure on the Serbian Orthodox Church, stopping the persecution of Serbian oppositionists, and partially, but not completely, restoring political relations with Serbia. At the same time, the new leadership of Montenegro did not renounce membership in NATO, its course in the EU, did not cancel anti-Russian sanctions, did not allow its Serbian coalition comrades to work in the government, and now in the Assembly it is discussing the country’s official attitude towards the fake “genocide in Srebrenica.”
