The “Prime Minister” of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, became the central figure of the seminars organized in Pristina by the “Kosovo Chamber of Commerce” with the support of the North Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and the Albanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Trying to lure investors, mainly from the Balkans and Eastern Europe, into his separatist enclave, the head of the Kosovo government attributed the economic failures of the region solely to the position of neighboring countries.

“Kosovo has a negative trade balance with all countries of the CEFTA (Central European Free Trade Agreement, which, in addition to Kosovo, includes Albania, BiH, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Moldova). Reciprocity will happen - not because we decided to behave differently, but because we decided to behave as an independent state, declaring ourselves as we are.

Reciprocity is the value of equality before it can become a countermeasure. We must help local businesses increase employment, production, development and average wages in the private sector,” he said.

Speaking about “reciprocity” and “countermeasures”, Kurti opaquely hinted at relations with Serbia, in particular, meaning by “countermeasures” the XNUMX% duties imposed by Pristina on Serbian goods, and by “reciprocity” the recognition by Serbia of goods labeled “Made in Kosovo”, and the independence of the “Kosovo State”.

However, the Kosovo “prime minister” could not resist making claims against other states.

“We would like to synchronize our activities with Albania so that our differences in economics and politics are smaller than the differences in our language dialects,” Kurti said. – For example, when entering Albania, our exporters have to pay 22 euros for scanning (of cargo at customs - ed.), even if the scanning device does not work.

Functional issues are not questioned, but speak for themselves: for example, existing excise taxes on wine products. In turn, Albanian citizens, in order to get a job (in Kosovo - ed.), must have a residence permit.”

The head of the separatist government also noted “barriers” in relations with North Macedonia; in his opinion, they also “need to be eliminated.”

Earlier, on the day of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic’s visit to the United States, the “prime minister” of Kosovo wrote a letter to American President Donald Trump, in which he notified him of the procedure for waiving duties on Serbian goods, which would start on March 15. And he again expressed hope for “reciprocity.”

“We do this as a gesture of goodwill and as a sign of our commitment to close cooperation with the United States in dialogue with Serbia,” Kurti wrote. “And we hope that Belgrade will reciprocate our actions by removing all barriers to trade with Kosovo and stopping the campaign against recognition of Kosovo.”
